Seasonal Depression - Can Acupuncture help?

Seasonal depression, commonly referred to as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), is a form of depression that occurs during certain times of the year, often during the fall and winter months. It is usually caused by a lack of the hormone serotonin and is often linked to shorter days, less exposure to natural light, and lower temperatures. Symptoms of seasonal depression can include fatigue, low energy, difficulty concentrating, decreased libido, carbohydrate cravings, and difficulty sleeping.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine that can be used to help treat a variety of conditions, including seasonal depression. In traditional Chinese medicine, seasonal depression is thought to be caused by an imbalance in the body’s energy, or qi. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture can help restore qi balance, resulting in improved mood and emotional well-being. Additionally, acupuncture can help to reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost energy. For these reasons, it is an effective treatment for seasonal depression.
